THIS week is going to be one big op shop party, and you’re all invited. While op shopping is my favourite thing, as regular readers of this blog already know, this week is about sharing op shopping tips, explaining why it’s good for the environment - and your bank balance – and, of course, sharing op shop stories.

I’d like bloggers to jump on board and this week, please, if you feel so inclined, post an op shop story or a favourite op shop purchase. I have stories of items I’ve missed out on, or fabulous buys I still pinch myself over. (One of them a Gucci bag I later Googled and found to be worth US$1300 – too true).

I’m also keen for you to post a heads up on the op shops around you, what they’re good for – some are better for those one-off retro pieces, while others have great selections of children’s books and toys. As you post, link to the 1degree op shop challenge and as we go along I’ll list the bloggers who have joined us.

Already on board is Claerwen, of Home Girl. Check out the links she’s found regarding the slow fashion posts of previous weeks.

  1. That is a lovely bag! I did find a pair of Burberry Prorsum sunglasses (USD220) the other day for $5 at the salvos. I've had them authenticated too - which is a good thing to do when you find designer branded items in oppys. There are tons of fakes around, some very good ones, so a trip to The Purse Forum or the retailer itself is worthwhile pursuing.

  3. What a voyeuristic-fun idea, Katie! Looking forward to reading all the thrifting stories from you and your readers.

Can we include secondhand shops or is it a strictly Salvos/St Vinnies-type op shop thing? x

  7. If I had time I would be off to the op shop immediately! The only great finds I've ever gotten was a tiny wooden chair that has to be 100 years old!!

  11. I found an incredible pair of vintage Stewart Weitzman pumps in emerald suede with matching snake-skin piping and detail on the heel. Ugh they were so gorgeous and peeked out just the right amount of tow cleavage. I scored them for $1... yes, just one singular US dollar at the Goodwill bins in Portland, OR. To this day they were my greatest score and greatest tragedy ever. You see, I wore them for a month straight, they made me feel like a Hollywood starlet from back in the days everywhere i went, and then I left them unguarded under a friend's coffee table for just a few moments with what I thought was a sleeping, gorgeous, chocolate, Labrador puppy with striking green eyes. She devoured them beyond repair that sneaky little hound... I swore her eyes were just a tad bit greener after that night...
