The first Saturday of the month means finding a bargain at the Kincumber Car Boot Sale and bringing home a pantry's worth of produce from Long Jetty Produce Swap. Throw in a swim at Toowoon Bay and a coffee at Cafe Mocha, Bateau Bay, and it's a perfect NSW Central Coast Saturday morning.

7am: RUMMAGE

I’m start my Saturday morning at Kincumber Car Boot Sale, hosted by the Kincumber Uniting Church. It’s first in, best dressed at what I reckon is the best car boot sale on the Central Coast. There are some regulars, but also surprise stalls each month. The Kincumber Men’s Shed opens its doors and the church op shop is open. Bargains abound.
Kincumber Uniting Church, 152 Avoca Drive, 6am to noon, first Saturday of the month

8.30am: BREAKFAST

It’s a 20-30min drive north to Cafe Mocha, at Bateau Bay. If you’re travelling solo you’ll find a perch at the end of one of the communal tables, but if you’re a couple or larger group, phone ahead to reserve a table, this place gets busy. The coffee’s good and the smashed avo is my favourite. I am picky about my smashed avo and this is salty, lemony, avocado perfection.
Cafe Mocha, 1/103 Bateau Bay Rd, Bateau Bay, 7.30am to 3pm seven days

9.15am: SHOP

Blackbird is the work of Michelle Botham. Michelle’s pulled together a beautiful collection of clothing, accessories, homewares and apothecary (essential oils, candles and herbal tea blends). The boutique is next door to Cafe Mocha. You won’t miss it.

10.15am: SWAP

You’ll have just enough time to whip across to the Long Jetty Produce Swap before it ends at 11am. Here, in the Pacific St CWA rooms, you’ll meet like-minded community folk who bring along their excess garden produce along with homemade preserves, seeds and freshly cut herbs and flowers. The produce swap is a free, monthly event. Bring along your own excess to share or come in and learn from the keen gardeners over a pot of freshly brewed herbal tea.
Long Jetty CWA Rooms, Pacific St, Long Jetty, 10am to 11am, first Saturday of the month

katiecrackernuts.blogspot.com.au || enjoy a swim at Toowoon Bay

11am: SWIM

You can walk up to Long Jetty’s strip of cafes to refuel or peruse the vintage clothing, record and homewares stores that have sprung up here, or you can turn east down Pacific St and steer toward Toowoon Bay for a refreshing dip. Toowoon Bay is mostly devoid of the rolling sets of other Central Coast beaches and, because it’s reasonably deep a few metres from shore, you can paddle, swim or float for the remainder of your morning.
