CLEAR THE CLUTTER AND PURGE THE POSTS
June 16, 2012
I AM not a hoarder in the classic sense. I do turn over my
op-shopped wardrobe regularly. In fact, I had a good rummage through and made a
little space in there today.
What I hoard is information. Ideas. Pre-internet I filled
folders and archive boxes with maps, cards, posters I liked, stories about neat
things, good design, reports and natty projects. I pinned things to an actual
board. I bookmarked things with, well, bookmarks.
Now, post-internet, I have things like Google Reader and
Pinterest. Hallelujah.
However, even technology can fail me some days. This morning
I was looking for a recipe I’d seen for Ranchers’ Eggs. The recipe had a twist.
I couldn’t remember what it was or where I’d seen it. I checked my Pinterest
Board headed Things to Cook and Eat. Nope. Not there. It might have been in my
reader but it’s long since disappeared and I might have bookmarked, but clearly
on another laptop or mobile device and I couldn’t be bothered checking.
Long story short, I gotta do something with this stuff I’m
hoarding. Pinterest is great but, whoa, you could go over-“board”, if you catch
my drift. I have four boards and am very strict. If I can’t pin it to one of
those four, it’s not pin-worthy. Tough digital love. It’s the only way.
So, what to do? Truth is, most of the time I hoard things to
show someone else. So, say, how ‘bout you gather ‘round and I’ll show you.
The flannelette shirt is the best part. What do you think? Could I wear it to work?

Two new books about blogging. Do you read about blogging? Does one need to?

Handmade digital print tops. Simple but edgy. I'm not into pretty and there's a lot of pretty.

Badges. And you don't have to be a Girl Guide. Is it OK to wear a badge you didn't earn?

Ooh, ta for the purge. My Google Reader thanks you.
