Digging in my garden
ROOM WITH A VIEW
April 04, 2008MY partner has always said that one day we’ll have a place with a view over a valley, or the ocean. It’s wishful thinking and, to be honest, we live in a pretty nice place. You just have to walk a block or two to enjoy the view. We’ve even got a couple of small mountains to climb. They’re bushland reserves and from there peaks we can sit and look over our little patch of the world. I particularly like the view out to my back yard. From my kitchen sink, I can look out over my favourite room in the house, past the herbs growing near the back door and out to the prayer flags flapping on my fence, the lemon tree coming into fruit, the banana tree, hibiscus, expanses of oregano, basil, tomatoes, parsley, borage and other herbs under the washing line. I love too, that on these sunny autumn days, I can hang the washing out early in the morning, watch it flap around out there and bring it in all clean and crisp to be folded and packed away at the end of each day.
