LAST Saturday I spent a couple of hours doing a reconnaissance of op shops to be visited during one of two op shop tours in November. I got such great feedback from the op shop challenge that I took the idea for an op shop tour to my local council’s environment education officer. She loved it and, not one, but two, tours will be organised for Recycling Week. A mid-week tour will bus op shoppers around five stores, with a lunch break, and the weekend tour will be a walking tour of five op shops in the city’s CBD.

Needless to say, one can’t visit five op shops without bringing home loot. It was a good morning. Gold-plated ‘80s earrings, a pair of boots (where one door closes another is obviously kicked open), a pair of pumps, an indie-inspired shirt (perfect with jeans), a David Lawrence skirt for work, a rattan bag and a leather belt with eagle buckle – all for under $60.
