HAVE you joined Pip's Retro Reader's Club? It sounds like a lot of fun but I haven't signed up because I am not very good at book club's. I don't like the book or my head turns when I see a glossy new tome sitting on the shelves of my local library.

I did think about Pip and the Retro Readers when I found these Famous Five books for $1 each at Vinnies today. There was also a Mallory Towers paperback and one of Enid Blyton's 'young readers' but these ones came home because I credit them with a love of reading.

My mother introduced me to the Famous Five during, if I recall correctly, a bout of illness. She herself was a fan of the Secret Seven but thought the Famous Five more modern, I think. There was George, after all.

For $1 each they had to come home with me, as did the 1970s Polaroid sunnies. Come on, they were only $2. For less than a fiver I've had quite a nice trip down memory lane.
