I'VE been tagged by Estelle, of Curbside Style. I am usually slack about tags (sorry to past taggers) but with so much time on the train these days, I managed to do this one.

If you had to spend 3 consecutive days on the same train who would you want with you and why?
I'd get off the train. A two-hour train commute to and from work, with strangers. I'm done.

Have you ever had a sewing-related injury? Give gory details.
WHEN I was a Girl Guide, a youth member that is, when bored, my patrol and I used to sew a running stitch through the skin on the pads of our fingers – not that I’d ever advocate that now I am a leader (clears throat).

What wouldn't you be caught dead in?
I have an aversion to going out my front door in a track suit, even worse a track suit and joggers. I don’t even own a track suit but recently did buy track pants. I consider it a slippery slope.

What garment/ accessory do you wear the most?
I AM a fan of my tribal-inspired necklaces, all op-shop finds, but have to say in winter it’s probably scarves. I love big square ones, like the one pictured, that can be wrapped and draped in all manner of ways.

Which pattern or vintage style have you been thinking about recently?
THE ‘80s revival. I am there. I picked up a dozen of the very early editions of Australian Handmade magazine, dating back to 1984, and the patterns are intact. Now, if I could just carry the sewing machine onto the train.

What is one place you really want to visit you haven't been to before?
THERE are so many, but as a teen was inspired by the colours and culture of Guatemala. I’d love to see whether it matches the image I have in my mind.

What do you wear when you want to impress?
I DON'T have a knock-out frock, as such, but a few stock ensembles that I know work for a variety of situations – and in some case, multiple situations.

Who is your favourite literary character and why?
AT the moment it’s Mma Romotswe of The No.1 Ladies Detectives Agency. That girl's got it goin’ on.

Which handmade project are you most proud of?
OH goodness, it was hideous, but I loved the piñata my Girl Guide unit made for a recent camp. Every unit had to bring one and we decided to make ours. Obstacles included a week of wet weather while the papier mache paste was drying, then another week of wet weather after we’d painted them and then, finally, rats in our hall ate them. The rats were attracted to the flour-based paint. Still, we held on to what good ones we had, strung ‘em together and belted the crap out of them. Many unit leaders prepared their girls’ piñatas, or bought them and while ours was a hideous effort, we’d made it ourselves. The sense of accomplishment our girls shared was priceless.

What was the best date you've ever been on?
LORDY, step-parents and step-parents-to-be don’t tend to have dates in the traditional sense – not unless you count taking your partner and their brood to a G-rated - PG if you’re lucky – movie. Oh, and probably Maccas for dinner. Then early to bed so you can be up when the youngest rises before 6am. Ooooh, baby, baby ...
