SUCCESS. I am feeling pretty chuffed. The carrots are being pulled and are big, wholesome, tasty carrots. I prepared the soil, sowed these carrots from seed, fought of critters and finally I have a stock of home grown carrots.

Now I just need to hunt down carrot recipes. Stephanie Alexander’s Kitchen Garden Companion has a zillion recipes I am keen to try, including a few choice carrot recipes. It was a big of a splurge to buy it – online from the Kitchen Garden Foundation – but the gardening advice, written for Australian gardeners, and recipes will have me opening its pages for years and years to come.

I could go on about Alexander’s Kitchen Garden Foundation and its work in schools, but I’ll let you read for yourself. While you’re at it why not read about food fairness, community gardens, community foods and co-ops and guerrilla gardening.
