THIS cabbage and box of apples was from the monthly farmers market near my place. I am always amazed at how far the farmers come from. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose? I was hoping to be able to buy local produce that didn't have to travel too far to be on my table. Sadly that was not the case. I'd love to see a food co-op start near me. I am a LETS member but after four years have found it works better in theory than in practice. Generally, LETS is a cashless community of shared resources among like-minded folk. I find, though, that people are always trying to bargain for the goods and services I offer. It's free, why bargain? I offer simple sewing and mending and garden cuttings, fresh herbs, lemons off the tree and from time to time take magazines and books to trade days. It should be simple, but it very rarely is.
