AUTUMN 2014 || APRIL... I'VE DONE IT

YOU know those days, or weeks, or even months where you know you're going to have to brace yourself and just run the gauntlet? April was one of those months. Everything, everything meant thinking ahead and staying on top. One bump to the routine and the whole thing would fall apart. The only saving grace was a glorious two weeks of leave booked for the end of it all.

Well, I've run the gauntlet and survived and the reward of a holiday is proving well worth it. Now it's all about cooking, eating, gardening, reading, op shopping (and repeat).

I READ: Two Stella Prize shortlisted novels, Burial Rites, by Hannah Kent, and The Night Guest, by Fiona McFarlane. I also whipped through but keep opening up and looking through Sylvia Plath Drawings, written up on Brain Pickings.

I WENT TO: Woy Woy Bay. OK, so as the crow flies, this is not a great trek but if you're paddling your own kayak, it is. I spent a glorious day on my home waterways happily mucking about in boats, or kayaks, with a mate of mine.

I LISTENED TO: The amazing ideas and projects that are going to be unleashed on the world by an equally amazing group of young women. I go on about the leadership development opportunities Girl Guides Australia offers young women, but honestly, who can blame me? #mindblown every.single.time.

I ATE: I'm on a 'staycation' and my list of things to do on the Central Coast is a blog post in progress. The Moreton Bay bug slider with lemon and thyme butter and chipotle mayo washed down with a cleansing ale, or four, at Six Strings Brewery will be on the list.

I SAW: The documentary Rising From The Ashes, which chronicles the cycling triumph of Team Rwanda. I'm not a cycling fanatic but it's a pretty amazing story.

I MADE: Poh Ling Yeow's chicken schnitzel with apple and radish slaw, burgers with spiced pumpkin relish and delicious puttanesca, all from this new book. Every single dish was divine and I'll be diving in to try more of the more tricky treats.
