I AM serious. My mother phoned last night to remind me I'd not dished the dirt on this fashion fancy I drove six hours to see Sunday last. I'd forgotten about it. Honest. It's been that busy at work and at home, I'd simply forgotten.

Anyhoot, author of Dreaming of Dior and Dreaming of Chanel, the super glam Charlotte Smith - that's her in the glorious lime and watermelon confection - loaned garments from the Darnell Collection for an event at Katoomba's The Carrington Hotel.

There were 200-plus people there and it was a little dark and you had to crane your neck to see the paraded garments, but it was a lot of fun to imagine the lives of the people who owned each piece. What about that hat? That plume, and that shawl? Ay yi yi.

Oh, and it was worth the six-hour drive to bring home a little confection of my own from Mr Pickwick's across the way. More 1980s than 1930s but lets just say it lives up to the glamour of the occasion. I have no idea how to capture the true purple, metallic-foil, tulle-layers glory of it all. You'll just have to wonder.
