I KNOW the first Sunday of Advent has been and gone but the first day of December, in our case also the first day of summer, reminds me of those old-school advent calendars my mother used to trot out. There were never chocolates or sweets or hidden treasures in our calendar, just a window to open each and every day on the countdown to Christmas. It was an exercise in patience and restraint. Hmmm, a life lesson I’d like to see a little more of in this hurly burly world of high expectations and immediate gratification. I won’t go on, it’ll start to sound all bah-humbuggy.

  1. Thanks Katy I'd have a cuppa with you anytime...love that advent calendar! I am making one, but it has turned into an epic event instead of the simple one I first had in mind...next time, less thinking!

  2. oh I love the old fashioned advent calenders - somehow I have managed to acquire another collection over the years. I suppose I had better give in to the requests and haul out those decorations....
