I BOUGHT this enamel pot for $8 from Vinnies on Friday and by Saturday night had found the perfect recipe to christen it with, a lemon and garlic chicken from Donna Hay’s Seasons cook book. I am not overly confident with the “whole” chicken thing but this turned out a treat and tomorrow night I have plans to make a chicken stock and soup from the carcass. The leftover chicken meat will disappear on sandwiches. I’ve been trying very hard to cut food waste in our kitchen. I’m even scouring the just-about-to-chuck trolley at my fruit and veg shop and the accompanying vegetables to Saturday’s chicken were brussel sprouts (baked in cream and served with toasted flaked almonds) and squash, made into a gratin based on Stephanie Alexander’s zuchinni gratin, from her Kitchen Garden Companion. The gratin I can highly recommend.

I do have to say, my food waste halo aside, the nice new-to-me pot did help make the whole cooking experience feel that little more inspired.
