SCHOOL goes back this week and by next week I will be leading a Girl Guide unit through another year. This year Girl Guides and Girl Scouts celebrate the movement’s centenary and the Australian organisation will be partnering with youth, women’s, environmental, international aid and leadership organisations.

This past weekend I helped 30 young members, aged 18-30, learn skills to become spokeswomen on issues that align with the UN’s Millennium Development Goals and what Girl Guides are calling Global Action Themes – essentially the actions we’re taking in our commitment to the Millennium Development Goals.

Seriously, Girl Guides is my hands-on way to make the world a better place. If you would like to know more about the work we do, visit Girl Guides Australia and follow the links to your state association. We'd love it if you joined us ... or if your daughters did.

  2. Sounds like fun! I loved Brownies and Girl Guides when I was young - looking forward to when my daughter is old enough.

  3. I'd have my girls signed up in an INSTANT (er, is two too young?) if I knew you were leading their unit.
