IF you’re not planning on buying new books for the entire year you really shouldn’t go to a writers’ festival, should you? Hmmm, five months in and my resolve was weakening. Now come on. Five months, that’s not bad. Truth be told, I did plan to go to the festival but bailed on much of it and managed to get away without buying a single book. I did spend up big at the Museum of Sydney’s Historic Houses Trust bookshop though. Bibliophiles Anonymous – meeting here soon.

  1. oh no! I made the same resolution and it has been sooo hard, don't tell me it can't be done! I was up the coast last month and stuck in a second hand bookshop for two hours - their craft bookshelf was amazing. I spent most of that two hours arguing with myself over whether or not I was breaking my resolution if I was buying a pre-loved book...the anguish!

  2. I get weak twice a year when the public library holds a super-cheap book sale that takes place over 3 days. Do I need that picture book on silverware, that old history textbook, that volume of ghost stories? No. And yet...

  3. I would have had issues too. Books would have been bought. There would have been words. (In the books, I mean).

  8. Ah! Fellow Historic House person! Isn't it just the best club in Australia to belong to? And! The publications they put out are super interesting and beautifully put together!
