IF you have the patience to rat through the baskets of old socks and hats and scarves in op shops you can find some gems. In the past few weeks I have amassed a nice little collection of pastel stockings from years past, still in their packaging. The lavender pair has already been paired with an off white Dior skirt bought from an op shop last year for $10, grey knit and deep purple belt. I’ve also donned the Leon Worth Shades, in carbine. The back of the package says: “Fashion designer Leon Worth now supplies you with all the shade of pantyhose you could possibly want and then some”. Copywriting gold. The yellow package of Holeproof Gelati Flavours, in pistachio, was $1.20 at Grace Bros in 1974. I kid you not. They’re as old as I am. I also have two pale pink pairs, one from Razza Matazz – colour called shell – and one by Holeproof Marilyn, in a colour called pinup. Who thought of these names?
